The Michigan Association of Timbermen (MATSIF) is a group self-insurance fund with a 45+ year history of providing a quality workers’ compensation program to the wood products industry. Our only purpose is to provide money-saving services that positively impact our members.

MATSIF has established itself as one of the nation’s premier workers’ compensation funds providing a comprehensive package of services focused on reducing injuries and increasing member profitability.

Although we provide workers’ compensation insurance, we are not an insurance company. Instead of an insurance binder, you will earn membership and ownership into an exclusive group of companies dedicated to providing a safe environment to profitably produce wood products.

The mission of the Michigan Association of Timbermen Self-Insurers’ Fund is to provide quality workers’ compensation insurance at competitive prices while maintaining the highest underwriting standards for membership in this premier program. In addition, we dedicate ourselves to retaining an exclusive team of skilled staff and service providers to continually strive to maintain positive, long-term relationships with members, and build upon this unique relationship to create the highest standard of excellence and safety in the wood products industry.

administration

MATSIF is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees elected by and representing the fund members. This helps to insure that policies and procedures developed by the Board are in the members’ best interests.

The administration of the MATSIF program is provided by a full-time office staff and three loss control representatives with over eighty years of experience in the administration of self-insured programs.

All features of the program and designed specifically for employers in the wood products industry. Every effort is made to keep administrative costs low while striving to maintain the best possible service to the membership.
